Graham Pike is the Dean of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada. Three of his students interned for four weeks at Nyaka.
I’m currently on my way home to Canada and I want to express my sincere
thanks to all of you for welcoming my students to Nyaka, supporting them
so well, and for facilitating my trip to the region. I thoroughly enjoyed
my brief visit and I am profoundly impressed by what you are achieving at
Nyaka and by your vision for these children. It is wonderful to witness a
’success story’ in development, rather than the bleak images and stories
that we hear so often in the media. Meeting these children, and your staff
at the school, reafirms my faith in the power of local, well-implemented
solutions to even the most dire of situations.
As I mentioned to Sam and Sempa, I would dearly like the University of
Prince Edward Island to stay connected to your initiatives and I will be
exploring ways through which we might do that. I would certainly like to
be able to send more of my student teachers to Nyaka next March/April.
Congratulations on your achievements so far, and thank you for including
us in your work.
Best regards,
Graham
